Cultivating Appreciation in our life

“My expectations were reduced to zero when I was 21. Everything since then has been a bonus." - Stephen W. Hawking

A happy life comes from mastering how to appreciate one’s own life. I had to learn to really develop the skill of appreciating my life. Because I am a man of passion and drive, over the years I have had to consciously slow myself down so that I could allow myself to feel my moments more. It is only when I am more in my moments that I can find all the wonderful things in my experiences.

This kind of exercise is really a tool that we each can develop if we want to extract the most out of all our experiences. Joy, love and excitement are only felt in your NOW moments. Honing in on your now moments is really a practice of presence. Practicing this kind of mindfulness is really a practice of being present to your life and all its details. When we rush to much, when we only focus on pushing forward, or when we only want to move toward our goals, then we can easily miss all the good stuff that we really want like joy, excitement and love. But most of all, we can not appreciate our experience if we don’t stop to smell the roses.

So I think it is wise to stop for a moment periodically throughout my days and to offer up my moments to myself on a silver platter and to deeply appreciate who I am and where I am. Because no matter what is going on, if I look hard enough I can find all the magical things my heart desires in every moment. My eyes are my portals to love, to beauty and to excitement. But it is my mind that germinates all that I see and experience into wonderfully beautiful flowering moments. I am deeply blessed! I am love. I am joy. I am always so very good.
