“Trauma and healing”

“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.” ― Fred Rogers

Life is filled with pain and suffering. We have all experienced events in our lives that may have dis-regulated our nervous system in such a deep way that we may not be able to feel the full range of emotions that we are suppose to feel. Thus limiting our experience in this world.

The clinical definition of trauma is:

“Trauma is the response to a deeply distressing or disturbing event that overwhelms an individual’s ability to cope, causes feelings of helplessness, diminishes their sense of self and their ability to feel a full range of emotions and experiences.”

We have all experienced trauma, but some of us have had events and experiences that have deeply effected how we see ourselves and the world. For many of these individuals it can be hard to express emotions and feelings. So difficult in fact they often run away from them, hiding from the very feelings that can encourage their healing.

I am forming a private online men’s group that I hope can meet in a safe virtual space once a week to discuss feelings, emotions and trauma. The intent is to deeply support men who do not feel they have a safe space to air what may be going on inside of them.

This is a topic that I deeply care about. I have experienced trauma in my life, but I have been fortunate to have a mother and a twin brother whom I have always been able to share deeply with. I have never been shamed for my feelings or made to feel bad by this chore group of supporters.

Now I want to be this for anyone who need me. I want any man who is in need to have a loving place to go to once a week to hear other men express deeply and where he may find uplifting support. This is a group for support, deep listening and sharing.

I have 2 friends in the fitness industry, like myself who are deeply loving and caring, who will be contributing in the group too. Thank you to my good friends Jon DeLarosa and Robert Timms. These two fellows are real men willing to share and support.

DM or email me if you would like to be on the list to be a part of these groups. I am keeping these groups small (3-4 plus me, Jon and Robert). We may need to host a few of these depending on how much interest there is.
