We live from the inside out

I can’t tell you how many times I have heard clients tell me: “I know what to eat and do, but I just need more accountability.” Most of these individuals believe that all they need to succeed is someone to keep them accountable to their diet and exercise routine. But the truth is, I can’t keep anyone accountable. The only person that ever has that kind of power is that person themselves. They don’t realize that they are simply misreading what will help them. 

What really happens in most of these cases is that who they are today (weight and all) is more than just a body. They are their bodies, but they are also their beliefs about themselves and they are what they do each day. 

Changing our bodies means changing what we do and what we think. Once we take this kind of approach then it is easy to understand that permanent change happens because a new person has emerged from he ashes of the old. We transform in all ways because we change from the inside first and then the body follows. 

More accountability will usually just make those individuals just give up and give in after they have disappointed themselves enough times no matter how much accountability they have. Usually, it is the extra accountability that pushes them to say “I need to stop now and give myself a break. This isn’t working.”

I had a client, Pam not too long ago that had this same reason for not being able to lose some weight she acquired over several months of inactivity. After just 2 weeks working with me she came to know that the block she had always had was indeed within her, it wasn’t needing more accountability. She was driven and had good focus. She just didn’t realize that who she wanted to really be was very different than who she was today. You can’t be something different than you are on the inside. So transforming our bodies has a lot to do with changing the whole being: mind, body and spirit. 

Now she is happy with the body she has, she lost the weight and she is successfully flying solo!
