“Fear is the block”

“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” - Yoda

We all fall victim to fear when making decisions. You can tell by the way we look at some of our choices in our lives and how we choose what to do in any situation. Most really try to avoid all negative outcomes. For example, when we are presented with a problem to solve, we immediately look for all the bad things that might happen. Or we ask ourselves “What do I need to avoid.” And we make our choice based mostly on what to avoid rather than what we really want.

This kind of fear based method of coming to our decisions forces us to try to move away from what we do not want instead of focusing on how do we move toward what we really want. We end up spending most of our time just trying to avoid negative outcomes. We are afraid of making any choices that may lead us to negative results, and we end up never really acquiring the outcomes we really want because we are too busy avoiding the stuff we do not want.

The truth is when we intently focus on what we want we draw it closer to us. Whatever we focus on we add our energy to this topic in our lives and our awareness becomes more hieghtened to see and find more of what we are focused on. So focusing on avoiding negative outcomes is the exact same energy as focusing getting those outcomes. Remember, the quality of your life is based on the preponderance of emotions that you generate and feel. This is how many people get stuck when they try to accomplish their goals and fail time and time again. They are actually blocking themselves.

As a matter of fact, my mother is a bit like this. When I got divorced from my first wife her very first piece of advice was to make sure I protected my wealth, my things and myself. I told her that I don’t make fear based decisions. I make my choices based on what outcome I desire. I desired a loving and harmonious departure from that marriage and I got it. As a matter of fact, I still have loving conversations with Shawna my first wife and we still love each other very much. We are actually better friends now then we were when we were married.
