Belief is the magic potion

The summer is now over and the holidays are quickly on their way. For many of us, this signals that time of year when we become more aware of all the fat we have accumulated. October and November are like the pre-season diet games before the New Year’s main kickoff season of dieting and fat loss.

During this time of year, do you find  yourself willing and motivated to start a fitness program only to struggle after the first few days of dieting? Are you tired of putting yourself through the horrible emotional game of feeling like your failing at your body and guilty for all the choices you may have made as you look at your weight gain and not knowing how you will be able to completely get rid of it all? If this sounds a little like what you go through each year around this time, then I have a surprise for you. What may be stopping you is not a lack of will power or motivation. It isn’t even more accountability. What stops us is always deeper. 

The truth is, what may be stopping you may be what you believe about your body and your life. You have heard it a million times before that there is no secret bullet or pill to take. And there is no short cuts to get you where you want with your body and fitness. Truthfully, what allows us to consistently change behaviors and create our unrealized futures is that we believe that we can create them. We find the resources that we need when we believe that we can, and we don’t when we know they don’t exist. But in either case, our results are a reflection of our beliefs about them.  

I can’t tell you how many clients over the years that have come to me expecting me to give them some special formula or supplement that will radically help them achieve the physique they want, only to realize that it is themselves that is the magic and not the pills, special diets or workouts. We need our diet and activity plans to be in alignment with our goals for sure, but they only do part of the work. 

The foundation for fat loss is always your vision of what you believe you can create. When you know what you can be, and you believe it 110%, and you stop asking “How?” it will happen, and instead ask what do I need to DO NOW. Then your in the best place to start creating that body that you have always wanted. 

I just had a client named Jill, who found herself in this same position year after year. She always looked to start a diet around the holidays or after to control her bulge for years. She just believed this was a normal way to manage her weight since she loved holiday parties, eating out and having an occasional drink or two on the weekends. 

After working with Jill for just a few weeks, she began to realized that she could achieve so much more with her body than she ever imagined. The problem was that she believed what others had said about her fat loss and her body. She never stopped to ask if the truths of others should be applicable to her. Or an even more important question, what truth did she really want to hold regarding her own body.

She felt more excited because her new physique and life was coming closer and closer to her with each workout, each meal and each day! She found that her belief in her own ability to achieve shifted her energy and allowed her to consistently feel excited about all of her fitness labor. Jill ended up dropping the fat she didn’t want and still maintains a lean, healthy and sexy body without sacrificing the things she loves.
