Ideas vs. People

“We shouldn't be looking for heroes, we should be looking for good ideas.” - Noam Chomsky

November is quickly approaching and with it our United States Presidential election. This one is definitely going to be an interesting one. Each election I am always disappointed that I rarely see candidates focus on their ideas. Instead they focus on slinging mud at each other. I personally do not care about who the President is as much as I care about what are the ideas that this president is going to put forward during their Presidency. It will be great ideas that make our country better.

What ideas do I think are worthy of putting forth to think about and talk about? As Americans, we need clarity on what we as a people are going to stand behind as our values. So here are a few questions and ideas that I think are worthy to talk about as a country.

How are we going to bring more equity to our citizens economically, litigiously, medically and socially? How can we uplift the almost 10% of our population who live below the poverty line in the United States? How can we support a new kind of ethic that focuses on total wellbeing rather than just profitability or money? How can we support the wellbeing of our planet in ways that empower us and still promote living in a sustainable future? How can we as a country really become one of the world leaders in compassion for others and working with the world to really make a better place for future generations?

These are just a few ideas that need more thought and discussion. My hope is that can shift our focus away from character debates and focus on putting more ideas and solutions forward. Then we can become a nation of listeners and supporters of wellbeing for everyone. But if we choose to continue to operate as we have, and it doesn’t matter why we do it, then we are headed down a road that will most likely lead our country into a gradual decline in economic influence and power. We will become a country that has little to no middle class with the wealthy controlling more wealth and the rest of us with less.

It will be our great ideas that move us forward. It will be our compassion that empowers us to new horizons. And it will be our understanding of others that gives us the most powerful advantage over the quest for power that so often manifests in human activities. It is always up to us to create what we want. So let’s create by focusing on the ideas, not the outcomes. Let’s not care about who wins, who is running, but instead on what they are saying and doing.

I am love. I am joy. I am so very good. And so are each one of you!
