Adjusting the Lens of Happiness

“The most important thing is to enjoy your life—to be happy—it's all that matters.” - Audrey Hepburn

It is happiness in our lives that we all truly treasure the most. And happiness is a choice that we each make with our ever shifting attention. And when our attention is focused on a topic or a subject, it is always filtered by our own unique perspective. Happiness you can’t change, it will always be happiness. But we do control where we place our attention and how we choose to see the world. It is the meaning that we attach to everything that allows us to feel our joy and embrace our wellbeing. The challenge we so often face is not letting our fears or anxieties become the center of our attention, or worse let them corrupt our perspective by altering the meaning that will serve us best.

It was easier for me to ignore my fears and anxieties at twenty-five than it has been at fifty. But I remind myself that I only control my thoughts and my actions. I do not control my outcomes. I do not control what happens in my world. I can change how I see my outcomes, and I can change the meaning that I attach to what happens to me. But what happens in my life, will be whether I like it or not. So I am always trying to find that point of view that will empower me, encourage me and uplift me when I need it. And when in those times that my life feels so heavy, I call on the wisdom within me, that is beyond my intellect, beyond my mind, which knows the truth of my being. And it always says to me, “Tada you are good.” And so I say once more; I am love. I am joy. I am so very very good.
