“The position of the mind”

“There will always be rocks in the road ahead of us. They will be stumbling blocks or stepping stones; it all depends on how you use them.” - Friedrich Nietzsche

I have always really loved so much of what Friedrich Nietzche wrote however not all. I am not as pessimistic about mass culture. But I think he understood that how we look at things determines much of our own personal experience with them.

I know that it is my mind and my perspective that produces pain, suffering, joy and reward to me. How I have decided to see something and what I have decided to see in my experience is critical to the messages I tell myself and therefore is responsible for all that I feel and experience in my life.

So for me the trick isn’t to change the world. Rather, I only need change my point of view on something. Yes I will still experience good bad and ugly but my response to each is vital to my feelings of fulfillment, self-worth and happiness in my world.

It is so often said, an experience can be a learning event or it can be just a bad experience. I see this in my life as a choice to either feel better or feel worse. I always choose to feel better about something maybe that makes me an optimist but I get to choose how I feel and what kind of experience I want to have in this life. It’s often times all in my own definitions of how I see what happens to me.

I think I can learn from anything that happens for me. All it takes is a willingness to believe that something bigger is happening here for me. And the faith that nothing is really permanently at stake here in this life. Everything is temporary and transient. What isn’t is me, the larger me. That part of me that doesn’t have a body. That never really can die. The real me.

I am love. I am joy. I am so very good.
