“Who do you really want to be?”

Have you ever asked yourself “Who do I want to be in this life?” I mean who do you really want to be. Not what job you have or what you look like. But who do you want to show up as in your life?

Most of us don’t really ask this question on a daily basis. I try to ask this of myself each morning when I am brushing my teeth or doing my normal morning routine. I don’t always expect an answer but I do expect to raise the question. 

What I don’t want to do is just cruise by life and lolly gag around hoping for good days and hoping for nice things to happen to me. That seems unreliable to me. Instead I expect to find wonderful things and I have to set an intention as to what kind of man I am going to show up as in every interaction that I have. 

Just setting an expectation or intention for me helps me focus myself in a way that will encourage the kind of interactions that I like to have. After all don’t we make everything up in this life. We decided something is good or bad and we then use these things as our excuses to feel whatever way we have decided to feel. 

What if I decided to leave any excuses behind and just feel good. What if I decided to not look at the bad stuff in you or me or in this world. And instead focused on those aspects of my experience that please me the most? Wouldn’t my days be a lot more predictable and pleasing? 

This is a power that we all have. It is a choice and a decision that we all decided to make when we lean into our excuses for sadness or our reasons for whatever we are experiencing. We can just as easily decided something else. This is what I try to do. I hope you will to.
