I was talking to my 13 year old daughter the other night about the messages that she often hears in the media, school, the church, me her mother and basically anyone who is providing information that she can buy into or not.
I encouraged her as I do everyone to question everything and everyone, yes even me her father! I feel it is important for her to one, make her voice heard but more importantly to ask the deeper questions and not just blindly follow or subscribe to any idea that she can’t support herself with wisdom or data that she can understand and get behind.
In a world that often has conflicting messages about who are, what we should do with our time and what we are to think is to be important to us she will need to navigate through this world with 100% confidence.
It is my firm belief that any good idea or idea that we should believe in will always be able to stand up to scrutiny. And anyone or anything that resists this kind of inquisition probably is flawed. All good ideas will be able to stand up to questions. Bad ones will always try to resist this or dodge serious questions with diversions or distractions.
The first questions you should ask in my opinion is “who am I really?” I am love. I am joy. I am good.
