I love this quote from Noam Chomsky on looking for ideas. This has been my criticism of current democratic elections and process. Nobody seems to be interested in good ideas rather they want a leader who will solve problems. We tend to elect people with a full dose of character debates and attacks.
Instead we might focus on what good ideas are out there rather than what “good people” we think we want in office. One of the biggest problems I see is our focus on character over ideas. Trying to prove each candidate is morally aloof or a bad person.
I say slay your opponents with the best ideas not the best looking candidate on paper. When I cast my votes I don’t vote on the person I vote based on the novel and goodness of their ideas. I want the best ideas worked forward.
We can be fooled by people but the right idea can’t be fooled. It simply is what it is. A good idea will stand up to criticism a bad idea won’t. So let’s focus on ideas in governing ourselves instead on who we think should do the job.
Only in this environment can we expect to see the best solutions to our problems while not getting side tracked with character debates that don’t amount to much. Ideas and the history of action speaks truths the words can hide. Be aware of the history of action and not the sounds that come out of a person’s face if you want to try and predict the future.
