“Do you know how lucky you are to be you?”

“The odds of being born a human being is about 1 in 400 trillion! If you are alive as a human you have literally already won in life!” - Tadayoshi Inoue

Today is my mom’s birthday! This day always makes me reflect on just how lucky I feel my life is. I often feel so wonderfully blessed to be born with the mother and family I have, as well as with the mind and awareness that I possess. It is easy to just sit back and lazily react to what comes at me in this life. Responding to what I like and what I don’t like all day long isn’t palatable for me. I want more from my experience than to just respond.

It is easier for me to cultivate what I want in this life when act with intention but more precisely when I respond to the stimuli of my life with intention. Instead of responding with my kneed-jerk reaction to unsavory situations or experiences I prefer to move toward those feelings that I want in all my interactions.

This is why I say “I love you” to all my friends. This is why I am so heart-felt in most of my interactions. My intention is to feel loving feelings, to feel joy and to cultivate that with all the people I can. So I intentionally look for those other aspects of my life that feel good. Or I find a perspective that allows me to see a silver lining in all that happens to me.

I am love. I am joy. I am so very good. And so is this life. It is so very wonderful when I choose it to be.
