“Act or Re-act?”

“How we each behave toward one another is a reflection of what is really going on deep within us.” - Tadayoshi Inoue

I always have my reasons for acting and reacting the  way that I do in my life. But the truth is, my actions and reactions come from a place deep within me. If I lash out and hurt another it is because I am focused on my own hurt within. But if I act with love and compassion it is also because I am focused on this aspect of myself.

Most believe they react because there are reasons outside of us that encourage and make us act in the ways we do. But really, we are merely feeding the beast within us that we each choose to feed. We can feed the beast of hate, anger and frustration, or we can nourish the beast of compassion and love. Whichever direction we decide to lean emotionally, we tend to find our reasons and excuses as to why we are leaning in that emotional direction.

I always have a choice to lean into love and compassion. I always have a choice to reduce my pain within me by turning my attention away from it. I do not need to feed my pain if I don’t want it to grow within me. Living the life experience that I want has solely to do with these choices I make within me.

I decide how I want to feel each morning, then I strive all day to lean in the direction of my emotional intentions. Does it work? Yes, I have found that this works very well, but just like any other practice, it requires repetition in order to get really good at it.

I am love. I am joy. I am so very good.
