The Beast Within

“We all have a beast within us that is waiting for us to feed it. These are our monsters of passion, they are our beasts of desire! And their food is our focus and our labor.” -Tadayoshi Inoue

Since I can remember, I have always had deep feelings of desire to achieve, to push myself beyond what others would be willing to do, and to excel in everything I could. I wanted to exemplify in the world how I felt on the inside. But I felt unworthy and insecure about my body and myself. As a kid, I would get picked last for kickball, or not picked at all! I was made fun of for being dorky, short, asian, bad teeth, bad hair, you name it. This created a deep desire for me to show the world who I really was.

I always knew how worthy I was on the inside, but I didn’t feel it on the outside. I wanted others to acknowledge and see me in the world. But I felt small and invisible to most as a child. I only felt seen with my brother, my mother and my family. But I just knew how awesome I really was, but why didn’t anyone else see it?

My mother taught me to love who I am, and to never accept another person’s ideas about me unless I agreed. I took this to heart early and decided that I needed to prove to the world and myself just what kind of person I am. Bodybuilding became that magical outlet that allowed me to take control of my body, my attitude and my life.

When you find that “thing” in life that just feels right. Then you can’t help it but do it. It was almost as if I didn’t really have a choice. That is what real desire and passion feels like. I was destined to become a bodybuilder. I was destined to be a master of motivation, to be a premier coach. Why? Because many of the skills and tools I had to learn along my journey of 37 years have centered around feeding my beast within. Mastering my own sense of desire and motivation.

Desire finds you, your passions find you. So don’t worry about what your passion is just open your mind, open your heart, and allow the truth of your experience to speak to you. It will powerfully lead you to all that you are destined to have in this life. And that journey always feels exciting and joyful.

I am love. I am joy. I am so very good and so are each one of you! There truly is so much love this life has for each of us if we are brave enough to allow it.
