I love you mom

“There are only two things a child needs in this world, to feel safe and to feel loved.” - Dixie Peterson (my mom)

I am living such a wonderful life and I owe so much of my perspective to my beautiful and wonderful mother. My mother was my first teacher, my first mentor, my first friend and my biggest fan. I know mother’s day just pasted, but each time I speak with my mom I appreciate her more and more.

I appreciate my mother as a woman. I appreciate her as person. But I what I appreciate most about my mother is the unconditional love that she has always showered on me my entire life. Growing up she would tell me each day without fail how much she loved and wanted me. As a child this made me feel invincible and safe. And I have carried that energy with me my whole life. And for that alone she has become the most powerful influence in my life hands down.

My mom was not a harsh woman, she was a loving and God-fearing woman. She was my first spiritual guru! She guided me and encouraged me to think for myself, to ask questions and to honor myself with love. Sometimes it is hard to imagine the massive impact she has made in my life. There isn’t a single thought or activity that her influence hasn’t touched in my life. And how thankful I am for it.

If you ask her about being my mother, she might say she could have done better. But from where I stand, my mother was just about as perfect for me as you can get! I love my mother so much and I am so thankful that we chose to be mother and son in this life together. I can’t imagine a better teacher. She always taught me with love. I can’t even remember her ever raising her voice to me. My mother truly is an angel of love for me.

Mom, I love you. I know I tell you all the time. But each day that goes by I know that it is one less day that I have to dance with you in this life. That is why I must tell you as often as I can, because someday it will only be my voice that I hear when I say it. I know we still have many more years of teaching together, but for me it will never get old saying “I love you mom! Thank you for being so beautifully perfect for me!”

I am love. I am joy. I am my mother’s son and that is always so good!
