A Perfect Life

“I would like my life to be a statement of love and compassion--and where it isn't, that's where my work lies.” ― ram dass

I used to say I would like to live a noble life. For me this has always meant a life worth emulation. But today I want to revise this. I will live a life that exemplifies love. My life is always a work in progress, but the work that I do is the work of compassion, of love and of understanding. But the most important subject of my compassion, of my love, of my understanding is me.

Yes, there are so many others who will be wonderful beneficiaries of my love and my compassion, but I know that I can not give anything that I do not already have within me. So my work will always be to ensure that I am filling my own cup first so that I have plenty to sprinkle around where ever I go.

The truth is, life can feel so very short. It can also feel like we eek on forever. But no matter what, I know that on my last day I will look back at this experience and I will see countless faces that I have loved. Innumerable experiences that brought tears of joy to my eyes. Every sunset I will cherish and every tender hand that I held will be of great value.

So my work today is to appreciate all that I can as deeply as I can. But to never forget that everything I experience I am so worthy of. This is why I came to this beautiful life, for no other reason but to bask in the warm loving energy of its embrace for just a little while. This life can be wonderful if I allow it to be. So my work is to allow as much love, as much beauty and as much joy as I am willing to accept.

After all, I allow what I am in each moment of my life. I know who I really am. I am love. I am joy. I am so very very good. And so are you.
