When I read the powerful words of Harriet Tubman, it is as if my mother is telling me these words. Not because I see Tubman as my mother, but because I see my mother in the words of Harriet Tubman. These are the kinds of words I would hear from my mother over and over again as a child.
My mother’s words inspired me to believe in myself, to fight for myself and most of all to know that I was worthy of all the love I could feel. Enough so that I would always love myself the most. It is from this emotional wellspring that I draw from to love others. I draw from that place inside me that I has been nurtured and kept safe. Initially thanks to my beautiful mother, then nurtured by me.
As my mother would once say to me each day when I was a child, and now I tell my YOU! “Did you know that YOU are destined for greatness? You are! All you have to do is dream it and you can have it!”
Thank you mom for being my mother. It is because of you that I know how to love. It is because of you that I know my wonderful purpose. It is because of you that I showed up in this life. Thank you for being my most wonderful teacher, my closest mentor and my most beloved friend. But most of all thank you for showing me who I am by loving me unconditionally. You have made my life so worth while. I love you mom!
I am love. I am joy. I am so very good.
