Love: action or feeling or something else?

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” - Rumi

What is love in this world? Is love an attitude or is it a feeling? Many have said that love is action. When someone loves something or someone then it is shown with action. This would mean that love is a conditional state that we hold towards others only when they please us or when their actions meet our loving expectations. That sounds lovely when your ideas of love match everyone else’s ideas of what love means, but what if it doesn’t? What if what makes you feel loved is just different than anyone else you know. Is it still love?

Love must be something more. Love feels like it’s the emotional backdrop that I can choose in any given moment. Yes I do express love physically with action, but it is not completely defined or limited to this kind of weak and often misconstrued offering. Love moves beyond action and beyond feeling. Love is the energy that we can feel within us always moving and stirring within our chest. It will fill us with optimism and invincibility when we lean into it. And it is the excuse why we do so much in this life.

“If I know what love is, it is because of you.” – Herman Hesse

To find my loving center all I ever need to do is close my eyes and imagine my daughter smiling at me. I know what she is saying to me in my heart all the time: “I love you daddy… I am so glad we chose each other in this life.” Now my heart over flows with a feeling of love that fills me with pride and with a sense of honor that I get to be my wonderful princess’s daddy in this life. What a great prize I am entitled to!

There is always a loving place that each of us can go to in our minds. And when we do this, we can be transported to a place with no anxiety, no fears, no worries, no wants or problems just the warm energy of love. I dwell in my loving place in side of me, and it always whispers to me gently; “I am always here for you, whenever you need to know just how wonderfully loved you are.”

I am sure that love only comes from within each of us. We can’t make anyone feel it, but we can remind each other of the incredible power within each of us to release our love into our experience. I am love. I am joy. I am so very good.
