Loneliness, connection and health

“We are all so much together, but we are all dying of loneliness.” - Albert Schweitzer

So many, especially now with social distancing many people including myself, have experienced loneliness and isolation. When we isolate ourselves and we do not maintain strong social connections with a few people on a regular basis, then we leave ourselves open to bouts of depression, anxiety, fear of others, even contributing to alcoholism and other physical disorders. Our connection with each other is vital to our physical health and wellbeing we not only benefit from our social connections but we actually need it for health!

Here are a few things that you can do to help encourage your joyful wellbeing.

Take at least 3000 mg of omega 3 fatty acids each day. Studies have shown over and over that our brains love omega 3 fatty acids, but we tend to get much less than what we could benefit from.

Get 45 mins of intense exercise at least 3 days a week. Staying active has loads of benefits for our bodies but it also can improve our cognitive functions as well. When we exercise in any capacity we increase our body’s circulation and blood flow to our brains and the rest of our body. The more we nourish our brains with blood flow the better our mind will function!

Talk to or interact with at least three people a week that you would describe as just “fun” conversations. This is small intention that will have huge benefits to how you feel and how lonely you end up feeling. Our interaction help us feel connected and a part of a larger tribe. We all feel safer and better when we feel this connection in our lives each day.

No matter what you do for your mental and physical health, do something that makes you get up and move and connect with others. You will feel the power of the exponentially each month you do any of these. I am love. I am joy. I am so very good.
