Managing Worry and Negative Emotion

“Worry pretends to be necessary but serves no useful purpose” - Eckhart Tolle

Especially in times like today, we can find so many things to worry about. It is so important to remember that all of our worries and anxieties are imagined. Worry and anxiety can only exist in our mind. Once something has manifested in this life then it is real, but if it has not happened yet then it exists in our imagination. Beware because  it is dangerous to worry too much. Our bodies and our minds do not know the difference between what we imagine and what is actually happening. So when we imagine some possible negative outcome in our mind, then our bodies and brains do not know the difference so they react as if it were real and we feel worry or anxiety because of it. In essence, our biology acts as if what we are imagining is actually happening right then.

Not only is worry and anxiety damaging to our biology giving rise to higher body fat levels, coronary artery disease, hypertension, cancer and more, but we also corrupt our life experience with negative emotion. When we do this often enough, when we live a life that is dominated by negative emotion then sooner of later either our biology will fail or we will simply want out of this life. The prevailing reason most people attempt suicide is because they simply do not wish to live a life experience that is filled mostly with negative emotion. So how do we cope with worry or anxiety?

It is our task in this life to manage our own emotions. No body can really do this for us. We are charged to manage how we feel about any topic in our lives. Even though most people request and often require others to manage their feelings for them, it is not completely possible while still maintaining personal authenticity. How we each feel about anyone or anything thing is based on our perspective on that topic. To master and manage your emotions you must get in the habit of re-writing the internal dialogue that you have with yourself on any of the events or people that seem to be creating negative emotion for you. When you change the conversation inside to a more understanding and appreciative dialogue then you will start feeling differently. Remember the key is to change your messaging around these topics or people in such a way that is truthful to you and that triggers a more joyful, loving, understanding and fun feelings.

Everything we do to master ourselves and our lives is built into a process. Find your process that embowers you. Get help if you need it, but have a daily process that helps you to always choose a joyful experience. You are love. You are joy. You are so very good always.
