“Cheat meals, should you and how to?”

"Sometimes the wrong choices bring us to the right places." - Unknown

As a health coach, I often hear people asking about cheat meals. Some people feel guilty about indulging in their favorite foods, while others use cheat meals as an excuse to completely derail their progress. But the truth about cheat meals is that they can be both beneficial and detrimental to your health and fitness goals.

On the one hand, cheat meals can help you stay motivated and satisfied with your diet. Restricting yourself too much can lead to cravings and binging, so allowing yourself a treat once in a while can actually help you stay on track in the long run. Cheat meals can also help boost your metabolism by increasing leptin levels, which can help prevent your body from going into starvation mode.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that cheat meals should still be approached with moderation and mindfulness. Overindulging in cheat meals can lead to negative consequences such as weight gain, increased inflammation, and disruptions to your gut health.

So how do you incorporate cheat meals into your healthy diet without derailing your progress? It’s important to plan your cheat meals in advance and stick to a reasonable frequency. Aim for one to two cheat meals per week, and make sure to choose foods that you truly enjoy and savor every bite. Don’t just eat junk food mindlessly – take the time to appreciate your meal and stop eating when you feel satisfied, not stuffed.

In conclusion, the truth about cheat meals is that they can be both helpful and harmful, depending on how you approach them. By incorporating cheat meals into your healthy diet in a moderate and mindful way, you can satisfy your cravings and stay on track towards your health and fitness goals.
