“Give up or keep going”

We all have heard it before, “never give up or give in.” I have never truly understood why anyone would give up on themselves even when tragedy might strike their lives. Hardships are a part of our experience in this life but giving up on anything you desire when we experience hard times is a self-defeatist kind of attitude.

Parents get sick and die, divorce happens, things don’t always go as planned in our lives that is just the paths our lives take. I understand the feeling of feeling overwhelmed in my life when I have 5 fires and not enough emotional energy to put them all out. But to not even try seems to me to be a bad strategy.

Instead, I simply take life one thing at a time. Somethings might get put on the back burner. But if I have a goal or a process that I am working on, I don’t stop even if I can’t be perfect. I just do what I can and I pat myself on the back for what I can do.

I don’t claim to have all the answers for everyone’s life challenges but giving up on what I want won’t simplify or help my situation. No matter what I may be going through if it is important to me, then I press on with what I got in me. It sounds simple and it really is.

Coaching so many people in bodybuilding and fitness for over 30 years now I have seen so many pack it up when life gets less than perfect. And thus they usually don’t ever really accomplish what they seek. Everything that is hard becomes a reason to give in or give up.

I will let you in on a secret, if you want something truly great in your life expect it to be difficult. Very difficult actually, otherwise you would already have it. Accept the challenges as mentors that are teaching you how to overcome and become what you really want. We are all stronger than we often think.

I am love. I am joy. I am so very good. And so are each of you.
