I have thought about this question a lot over the last fifty-one years of life. What I know today is that a joyful life is a state of being. It is being grateful, loving, understanding and compassionate because it simply feels better to offer these instead of offering hate, spite, revenge or anger. It is a kind of spiritual and emotional intelligence that we all must practice in order to get good at.
A joyful life is the result of a certain kind of wisdom that many do not want. It is a wisdom that knows that “what I offer I receive.” How I show up each moment defines me in those moments, and there is a deep desire to resinate with my highest ideals. It is a way of living that is equal to our highest self.
Joyful lives can have money, accomplishments and lots of nice things, but they aren’t required. The only thing that is required is our participation in being grateful for all that is before us. What is required is to intentionally look towards love, compassion and understanding. What is required is to allow love, gratitude and joy to dominate your attention and your intentions.
I am love. I am joy. I am so very good. And so are each one of you.
